Mog Lab

Last updated 2026-07-12

Local-first by default. Photos are only sent for AI analysis after you explicitly choose the AI photo read — otherwise scans run on-device.

Mog Lab is built by Jacob Teague. This page explains what data the app collects, how it is stored, and what rights you have. We do not sell personal information, and user-entered app content is never shared with other users.

What stays on your device

Mog Labis local-first. There is no account to create. The following data is kept in iOS local storage on your iPhone, protected by your device passcode and Apple's app sandbox, and never leaves the device:

  • Scan history, saved scores, and generated fix lists
  • Profile answers and progress history
  • Local photo references and cached Max Potential Preview output
  • Subscription status and app settings

Delete the app and this data goes with it. You can also clear data without deleting the app from the app's Settings.

Face data and the live camera grid

On supported iPhones, Apple Vision face landmarks may be used on-device to draw the live selfie grid. These landmarks are transient, are not saved, and are not sent to our server or to third parties.

If you select or capture a photo, the app uses that image to create your requested scan result. The app may also calculate non-identifying pixel evidence such as brightness, contrast, sharpness, crop, approximate face position, and skin-read evenness proxies.

Optional AI photo read and Max Potential Preview

Before any photo is sent for AI analysis, Mog Lab shows an in-app permission screen. Choose “Use local scan only” and the photo is analyzed on-device and never uploaded. Choose “Use AI photo read” and the photo, its file type, and local pixel evidence are sent to our endpoint, which forwards the request to the OpenAI API to generate the appearance read.

The paid Max Potential Preview requires an explicit tap on “Generate Preview”. The photo-read endpoint is stateless, uses no-store caching, and does not intentionally store uploaded photos. OpenAI processes these requests as our AI service provider with store disabled; OpenAI states API data is not used to train models by default, and abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days.

Face data is never used for advertising, ad attribution, identity verification, surveillance, user-to-user ranking, public voting, or sharing with other users. Attribution events never include photos, image URIs, scores, face landmarks, or scan content.

Attribution and app analytics

Mog Lab uses App Tracking Transparency–gated attribution tooling (AppsFlyer and TikTok App Events)to understand which marketing campaigns lead to installs and where people stop in the app flow. These tools only run after you respond to the iOS tracking prompt; if you deny tracking, the app falls back to limited measurement that does not use your device's advertising identifier.

Attribution events are intentionally limited: app name, anonymous device or install identifiers, campaign metadata, and privacy-safe funnel events such as app open, onboarding started or completed, paywall viewed, and purchase status. They never include the content you enter in the app — no health entries, journal text, photos, notes, personal numbers, names, emails, or account credentials.

Purchases

Paid subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. The app receives a purchase status signal from RevenueCat, the purchase management provider, which validates purchase receipts from Apple. RevenueCat learns that you purchased — never what you entered in the app. Manage or cancel anytime in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

A private photo coach, nothing more

Mog Lab generates a private Mog Score and appearance read for your own photos. It does not identify you, verify identity, create a biometric template, unlock the app by face, compare you to other users, or share photos, scores, or scan results with other users.

Your rights

  • Delete your data:delete the app from your device — everything goes with it. You can also clear data from the app's Settings without deleting the app.
  • Export your data: where supported, export your data from Settings → Data → Export.
  • Tracking choice:you control attribution through the iOS tracking prompt and can change it anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Children

This app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
